Competition

Yesterday I informed the director of the project, that finally I received the last required document from the University, in order to register the dissertation, and he told me that there is a group in Barcelona willing, also, to investigate about the same subject: the voting tendencies of the commuters.

I have two options:

- To contact the group: I will do it
- To make a new proposal for a different research subject. I will also do

When I decided to add this post I thought that there was no relation between what I'm going to explain and the doctoral dissertation, but I was wrong, absolutely wrong.

My father died the 7th of December, so less than one week ago.
In few months we would celebrate his 90th aniversary.
At midnight he was fine, at home, creating a DVD with pictures and music for his friends; one hour later he died in the hospital, so no pain at all.

The next two days we have been receiving condolences from a lot of people that we never knew before. The church was not enough to accommodate all the people willing to be there, with him for the last time.

He played the same role that he always used to: some of my cousins, relations broken during the last 25 years came to the funeral, so he succeded one more time to make people forget minor, often stupid and nonsense disputes.

So a lot of sadness, but also a contradictory feeling of satisfaction knowing that he was very appreciated. The priest said: I know he was a good man. I just have to count the people paying the last visit

Well, certainly, not being able to explain him how I'm doing, what I'm learning, it's emptying one of the goals of this project, in the sense of making him proud of me.

The day of the funeral I meet unknown people telling to me and to my brother that they knew about us: our studies, our work, our families...

I have to accept that this was not only an intelectual challenge, as I thought

Technological mistake

When I had the presentation of the investigation ready, I sent the PPT to Dr. Reniu so he could advise me.
Since then I have been asking him about his opinion, but he always rejected to give a clear answer
Last week we had a f2f meeting were I insisted about knowing his thoughts after reading my presentation.
He opened the file, while I was also looking at the screen...........
It seems that I sent him a draft with three slides were I only wrote some ideas, not in order, just to start filling in an emplty slide
Believing that this was something that I was proud of creating, he had i mind to tell me that maybe the best idea would be to stop inmediately, and avoid wasting time

Well, some hours later I could send him the right file, which I expect to be taken into consideration as a starting point ( or as the end point)

The right file I could retrieve from a mail message, because all the files with the same name in two different PC's and in two pendrives were overwritten by the first draft

This means that from now on I will have to be more accurate in the naming of the files, using v ( version numbers ) at the end of the name of the file

What to do when you are lying in the beach, under the sun, and you don't know which side of your body will be the next one to burn ?

Well, this is an opportunity for making your mind fly, probably searching for clouds to protect your skin, but also to organize your ideas, if any.

We have spent four days in Tossa de Mar. I succeeded to complete the PowerPoint with the presentation of the project, and the main thing that I really needed: to clarify the goal of the investigation and to determine the variables required to develop the statistical calculations

I have been following the structure of the document created for the UOC, "El procés d'investigació social i política. Marc teòric i disseny empíric", because I was unable to create such kind of presentation without a template in front of me.

The next step will be to receive the comments from the Dr. that I expect will be the director of the dissertation

I have always been fanatic of the technologies. The word 'new' has been the gas for my tank

Being able to add comments to my blog from a cell phone is certainly a way of making things easy

Some few words, just to start

I have never succeded, before, to create and maintain a blog space, but it was, probably, directly related to the lack of reasons for such a need


At present, when I'm going to start working for my doctoral dissertation, I would like to keep track of the evolution of my thoughts and progress, if any.


Summer time, a lot of expectation for the preliminary work to be prepared taking into consideration the availability of free time, but it seems that free time will remain free, because to fill-in a slide of a PowerPoint presention is taking me more than one week.
